Reichert Campaign Sends Letter to TV Stations on False and Deceptive Ferguson Ads

September 11, 2024

BELLEVUE, WA – Late yesterday, the Reichert campaign sent a letter from its legal representation to television stations across the state of Washington regarding Bob Ferguson’s latest blatantly false and misleading advertisement.

Ferguson’s ad has two glaring lies in them.

First, he accuses Dave Reichert of saying Washington teachers are “overpaid.” Not only does the article cited in the ad for such an outrageous claim never quote Reichert as saying such a thing, Reichert has never once suggested that teachers are overpaid.

Ferguson’s second lie is even more egregious. In the ad, he claims Reichert wants to “gut” education funding. However, not only does the Seattle Times article he cites never once mention such a thing, it actually states the complete opposite: Reichert wants to increase education funding.

From the piece:

“Reichert said he will strive to get closer to 50% [of the state’s general fund going toward K-12 education, compared to 44% currently] if elected governor and stop the trend of a declining percentage of the budget going towards education.”

The Reichert campaign is requesting that these ads with made up claims be taken off the air immediately in the interest of voters who deserve knowing the truth about the candidates.

Why is Bob Ferguson lying in these ads? That’s easy. It’s the same reason why he was lying about Reichert and spreading fear during last night’s first gubernatorial debate. Bob is a career-politician who feels entitled to be governor and will deceive voters to distract from his record of failure as Attorney General.

On his watch as the state’s top cop over the last 12 years, crime has exploded; officers have left the force in droves; and fentanyl, which he urged the legislature to decriminalize, is killing Washingtonians.

Voters deserve an honest campaign for governor. Bob Ferguson has made it clear he has no interest in giving them one, but that doesn’t mean television stations should enable him. They should do the right thing and pull this ad.
