It Has Been Over a Week

August 26, 2024

BELLEVUE, WA – It has been over a week since the Seattle Times published an investigative report that found 25 percent of “sexually violent predators”released by Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s office went on to commit new crimes. In fact, 1 in 7 of these predators went on to commit serious crimes with half involving sexual violence.

While Ferguson talks a lot about protecting women on the campaign trail, he has said nothing about his actions that led to women being attacked by the predators he released.

One such violent predator was released despite a corrections officer expressing concerns that the criminal’s compliance with supervision “appeared to be deteriorating” which included such red flags as lying to his own therapist.

The criminal Ferguson’s office suggested should be released is now serving a life sentence in Maryland for attempted rape, burglary and other charges in an attack on a 74-year-old woman at knifepoint in her bedroom.

Why is Bob silent?

While Ferguson has ignored explaining why he failed women in the state of Washington over this last week, he has found time to fight with reporters on whether he committed to a debate before refusing to participate.

“Ferguson’s campaign said as much to 4 News Now in an email Friday morning, calling the claims ‘inaccurate and untruthful.’ The campaign said it was asking for retractions from the news outlets who reported it.”

Ferguson has prioritized debating debates with reporters over telling reporters why his office failed.

And it’s not like Ferguson’s campaign is going to make their candidate available for an interview on this scandal any time soon; the Attorney General rarely sits down with journalists for interviews.

It has been a week since this story broke. Washingtonians deserve answers from their state’s top cop, not silence.
