Dave Reichert Ends Momentous June by Beating Bob Ferguson in Fundraising for First Time
July 3, 2024
BELLEVUE, WA – Dave Reichert raised nearly $562,000 for his campaign in June, raising more than his likely general election opponent, Bob Ferguson, for the month. This is the first time the Reichert campaign has outraised the Ferguson campaign and it caps off a momentous month for the Reichert campaign.
Ferguson’s no good, very bad June started at the beginning of the month.
Just days after USA Today named Washington’s gubernatorial race one of the three races for governor to watch in 2024, U.S. News noted the race had become competitive by shifting its rating toward Republicans.
“Washington is the only state to shift in rating since our last assessment,” U.S. News’ Louis Jacobson wrote. “The main reason for the race’s increased competitiveness is the entry of former U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert, a moderate Republican. He gives the Republicans their best shot at winning the governorship since 2012, when another moderate Republican, Rob McKenna, ran against Inslee in the state’s most recent open-seat contest, losing by about 3 percentage points.”
Less than 10 days after U.S. News shifted their rating toward Republicans, Cook Political Report shifted their rating toward Republicans as well.
“Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee announced last year he wouldn’t seek an unprecedented fourth term, and in a presidential cycle in a state President Joe Biden carried by 19 points, this shouldn’t be a headache for Democrats,” Cook’s Jessica Taylor wrote. “But that changed when Republicans landed a top-tier challenger in former Rep. Dave Reichert.”
Reichert would go on to begin airing television ads with a piece highlighting his esteemed record in law enforcement locking up violent criminals while contrasting it with the skyrocketing crime that has taken place on Ferguson’s watch since he has been the state’s top cop.
And now Reichert has ended the month besting Ferguson in fundraising for the first time.
Bottom Line: With primary ballots being mailed out in just weeks, Dave Reichert has the momentum as voters are eager to elect a governor that will keep their communities safe while making the state more affordable to live.
